Khartoum - Mona Al Bashir
Presidential Advisor in charge of Darfur File Dr. Ghazi Salah Addeen, in the presence of the Chadian mediator yesterday, disused with the Chairman to the Justice an Equality Movement
(JEM), Dr. Khalil Ibrahim implementation of the Framework Peace Agreement signed last month between the Sudan Government and the Movement in Doha, Qatar.
Intensive consultations were conducted by the joint mediation of Qatar and the AU-UN Joint Chief Mediator, Djibril Bassolé for achieving a last-minute breakthrough in respect of peace realization
looked forward by the Sudanese nation
Obama's Special Envoy to Sudan Scott Gration praised the Qatari role in brokering the recent deal saying that without Doha’s “tremendous efforts, which not only
helped the negotiations, but also their efforts to unite the rebel groups.
Washington's Envoy stated that the Doha accord marked a turning point for a resolution to the seven years conflict and called on both sides to "strictly" abide
by it through the cessation of hostilities and violence. He blamed JEM for non adherence to the timeframe set by the mediation for signing a final peace accord by the 15th of current March at the
latest.
However, excluding the probability of a due signing of such a deal, member to government delegation to Doha Talks Dr. Amin Hassan Omer, told
reporters that no direct meetings were held with JEM, saying that it was premature to claim nearing a deal with the movement.
Omer reported that his delegation has received, reviewed, amended and sent back the ceasefire proposal handed over by the Mediation.
According to him, JEM has recently been procrastinating on the negotiation process for reasons unknown to the Sudan government, while consultations have been ongoing
with other Darfur movements targeting an overall peace agreement as the deal with JEM alone may accomplish peace in the region.
Amin Omer said that though the direct talks should be part of the negotiation process, his delegation would not stay in Doha beyond the end of current month should JEM
did not respond to the mediations' said proposal or made its position crystal clear as to negotiation resumption.
Meanwhile, Presidential Advisor Salah Addeen arrived last Sunday in N'djamena on an unannounced visit. He was reported to have held intensive meeting with the
Chadian President, Idris Debby, whose government had received JEM's vision regarding the implementation of the framework peace agreement, particularly, on wealth and power sharing as
well as security arrangements. Sources expected the two parties to sign a final accord within a two-day period.
Chairman to JEM delegation to Doha, Tugud stressed the Movement's stance rejecting conduction of the national elections in coming April. He said, "Our
position on elections postponement is unchanged and the American stance supporting conduction of elections on the set schedule does not reflect the position in Darfur or Sudan."
Darfur United Revolutionary Powers' Front urged unification of all movements a basis for realization of a comprehensive and sustainable peace.
Front Chairman leading its delegation to Doha , Yassin Yousif told reporters , " Though unity was not achieved in the battlefield , there is a
favorable opportunity in Doha, dialogue between Addis Ababa and Tripoli groups is possible." , calling for the restructuring of the Liberation and Justice
Movement under Tijani Sessi so as to allow fair representation of all parties. The Front reported its meeting with the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Bin Abdallah
Al-Mahmoud where they discussed Darfur Peace Process.
